THE HEART AND THE MIND

To understand the heart and mind of a person, look not at what he has already achieved, but at what he aspires to.
Khalil Gibran

We all know where the heart is situated in the body.

We also know that the heart loves and feels, but did you know that the heart thinks?

That it communicates with the mind and other parts of the body.

That it stores information.

How many times have you heard stories about people who undergo heart transplants and then remember things they never knew. Eat food they have never eaten before?

Amazing!!

The heart also is energy and from what I have talked about so far on energy…how important is that?

The good old heart is not just a pump, we refer to the heart in so many ways.

We use the heart to give us inspiration for songs.

We say thinks like “they’ve taken that to heart”.

We put our heart and soul into things.

It comes from the heart and so many more expressions that involve the heart.

Medicine only looks at the heart as an organ, made up of arteries and tissue that pumps blood through the body.

Not just a Pump

The heart is intelligent.

We know instinctively that the heart plays a major role in our wellbeing.

How many times have you heard somebody saying you need to follow your heart?

Science has since proven that the heart sends emotional and intuitive signals to help us in our lives.

The heart directs and aligns many systems in the body to work in harmony.

The heart has always been in constant communication with the brain but we have since discovered that the heart makes many of its own decisions.

The heart has its own independent nervous system.

So why am I telling you this?

I have covered off on how amazing you are, the mind and Body, the Quantum Field, consciousness, meditation and more.

Now it is the hearts turn.

The reason for knowing more about the heart, is because it definitely plays a part in our internal awareness.

It helps us with being aware of how we respond to external events.

There are certain techniques available that are not just about breathing.

They are a system that we can use on a daily basis that will help in restructuring neural circuits. Which help create alignment with our physical, mental and emotional systems. Which in turn helps us gain access to our intuitive intelligence.

Now that’s pretty amazing.

If you practice one of the techniques that I will show you, along with all that you have learned so far, then you have no excuse not to be able to create a new you and be, do or have anything you want.

Whatever I show you, please keep it simple, remember that sometimes when we are stressed, we can’t think clearly.

Clear and concise, gets the message to the brain.

The following are some facts you may not know.

  • Your body doesn’t care whether you are a little stressed or a lot stressed. Stress affects the body in very predictable ways. If you have a typical stress reaction, the body reacts with approximately 1400 biochemical events. If these reactions are left unchecked, we age prematurely, we are drained of energy, our clarity is impaired and so is our cognitive function.

  • Stress can make smart people do stupid things. Why? Researchers have found a phenomenon called “cortical inhibition”. When we are stressed, there is a small part of the brain that doesn’t function at its optimum. We are out of coherence. Coherence is when the heart, brain and nervous system are working together.

  • You can definitely become numb to your stress. You are so used to all the daily pressures, that in time, they become normal. The danger with this is that stress is accumulative. You eventually don’t even know how much this affects our overall health; our mental and emotional clarity is impaired.

  • Can we control our stress? The answer is yes. You can rewire your stress responses (I will give you a technique at the end of this section).

  • Handling stress when it happens is the best way. We so often bottle up our stress, until the end of the day. We tell ourselves that I’ll feel better when I visit the gym, or go to my yoga class. Unfortunately, the body has already activated the stress response, which in turn affects our health. The chart below gives you an idea of when we are frustrated and when we are in coherence.

There is some very profound research that substantiates the Heart/Mind connection and how they communicate.

I am not going to go into all the information, as it is a complete book in itself.

Some of the information I have given you here, is from “The Institute of Heart Math”.

The Institute has developed the Resilience Advantage Program.

I have been blessed to be able to attend in the USA, where I became a Certified Heart Math Trainer.

My recommendation is to do the following exercise at least daily.

This exercise is based on Heart Math Institutes’ Heart Lock-In technique.

This technique can change your baseline in six weeks.

Now that’s amazing.

The Heart Lock-In Technique is a powerful tool for creating beneficial and sustained changes at the physiological level.

Step 1:

Focus your attention in the area of the heart.

Imagine your breath is flowing in and out of your heart or chest area.

Breathing a little slower and deeper than usual.

Step 2:

Activate and sustain a regenerative feeling such as appreciation, care or compassion.

Step 3:

Radiate that renewing feeling to yourself and others.

One of the key benefits of practicing the Heart Lock-In Technique regularly, is that it creates a coherent field environment for you and those around you.

The third step of the Heart Lock-In is unique, in that it provides the individual an opportunity to send or “radiate” the renewing feeling to yourself or others.

The action of radiating a renewing feeling is similar to the analogy of a radiator or old-fashioned heater, radiating heat to a room.

The Brain has a Mind of its own.
